Sound File Browser

You can access dialer recordings, upload files for playback and upload files for IVR using the Sound File Browser.

The Sound File Browser allows you to manage your voice over recording (sound) files. It allows you to listen to the recordings, archive, download and delete recordings from an easy to use interface.   You can also upload files into the asterisk_sounds area for playback during an interview or for IVR.

Archive and Delete

This option allows you to archive the files into a tar file and then deletes the sound files from the server leaving just the archive. You first select the files you wish to archive by clicking the check box that is located to the far right of each file name in the list then you click on the archive and delete button.

Delete Files

This option allows you to permanently delete files from the server. As with archive and delete you first select the files you wish to delete. When you click on the Delete File(s) button you will then be asked to confirm. If you say OK it will then confirm with you once again.

Zip and Download

This option creates a zip file of the selected files from the list and then begins a download of that file to your machine. Once the download is complete you will be responsible for removing the zip file from the server. This option does not delete any of the sound files that were zipped up.

Uploading Files and Creating Directories

If you browse to the asterisk_sounds directory you will be given additional options to create a directory or upload files that can be used in IVR studies or to playback in studies.

To use this you must set the IVR_files and Playback Files option in the Dialer Config to the appropriate directory.

For Example:

/var/www/html/sound_files/asterisk_sounds/<ivr or playback directory>

To Upload Question Recordings

  1. Log into the Survox Dialer Console
  2. Select the Sound Files Browser from the menu
  3. Click on the asterisk_sounds sub-directory

  8. Select all of the files to upload in the popup window
  9. Check the Verify and Convert for Asterisk (mp3 or wav only) box
  10. Click the Upload button to upload all of the voice over recording files

NOTE: We do NOT recommend copying the files over via command line since the wrong file type and format could be used.

Other Options

Besides uploading recordings, there are other options that can be performed in the Sound File Browser.  The other options are:

  • Cut File(s) allows you to cut files to paste into another folder
  • Copy File(s) allows you to make a copy of the files to paste into another folder
  • Paste File(s) allows you to paste the copied or cut files into another folder
  • Delete File(s) deletes files from the server
  • Create Dir creates necessary sub-directories

You can play a file from the browser by clicking on the “play” icon.  You can also work with one file or with multiple files at a time by clicking the check box.

Once the HTML code is displayed, copy and paste it into an Overview.html page and upload to the Shared Files area of the Survox Console for the study.  This will allow a Survox Console user who has access to the Shared Files area to easily manage the sound files for a study.

See the Survox Console Shared Files documentation for more information.
