Activate – Deactivate

The activate-deactivate features allows you to control study access for IVR, webCATI and webSurvent studies. To make a study available for respondents to access, it must be activated. The “Deactivate” command allows a user to temporarily close access to an IVR or webCATI/webSurvent project.

Activating a study will load the files back onto the server and make it available for respondents to access. Failing to activate the job will not allow respondents access into the survey.

Deactivating a study will temporarily shut the study down from the server disallowing respondents to access the study. Respondents that are still active are able to stay in the interview until completion. Once all of the active interviewers are out of the study, the files will be unloaded from the server. A respondent will not be able to access a study that is deactivated.

One reason to deactivate your study is to modify and upload changes to your study. Another reason to deactivate your study is to add sample. You must deactivate the survey to make sure no respondents can access it. When all of the respondents are out of the survey, you can then upload your changes or add the new sample file and activate the study to make it accessible again.

Version 8.9+

In version 8.9 there are 4 states a study can be in at any given time.  Below is a list and description of these states, how they will be reported in the Survox Console, and what the user will be able to do when a study is in that state:

  • Available – Study status will show as “Available” – No one is currently interviewing on the study, but new interviews can be started.  When a study is in this state, the user can deactivate the study.
  • Active – Study status will show as “Active” – Interviewing is currently being done on the study and more interviewers can start interviewing as necessary.  When a study is in this state, the user can deactivate the study.
  • Deactivated, but interviews in progress – Study status will show as “Deactivated. Number of active sessions: ##”  – Study has been deactivated, but interviews are in progress.  No new interviews can be started. When a study is in this state, the user can activate the study.
  • Deactivated, no interviews in progress – Study status will show as “Deactivated.”  Study has been deactivated and no interviews are in progress.  No new interviews can be started.  When a study is in this state, the user can activate the study.
