How to turn daylight savings time off or on in the phone files

How to set the FALLBACK option in the fone files

For all such Survent sites that use the phone system and call numbers in the U.S. and/or Canada, be sure to perform the following steps:

  1. For any active .fon files, run FONEUTIL and use the FallBack (DS-) option to have it adjust for any numbers in areas that do not observe daylight savings. (Arizona, Hawaii, and parts of the Caribbean). You only need to do these on .fon files that actually have such numbers, although we recommend that you do it on all of them should you add such numbers later on.
  2. Navigate into the CONTROL sub-directory of where the Survox software is installed and then run FONEBULD and change the Daylight Savings setting for your default shopfile to NO. This will insure that any .fon files built in the future will be built correctly. Be sure to use the Writeshopfile command to save your change(s).
  3. If you use custom shopfiles be sure to update them in the same way.
  4. If you use ASCII Phone headers to build your .fon file, then make sure you modify the following line in ALL of them. DAY_LIGHT_mode = NO

NOTE: For Survox Console Users: Currently all existing .fon files can only be switched from Daylight mode via command line.

For all Survent sites that call the U.S. and/or Canada that DO NOT switch to daylight savings time (AZ,HI,etc):

  1. Perform the steps above and then
  2. Set the timezone in your parmfile back to what it really is (e.g. 08 to 07) You should have set it one higher in the Spring. (When other areas switch to Daylight Savings Time, Non-Daylight Savings Time areas should increase the timezone in their parmfile by 1 to offset the change.

For example, if you’re in an area of timezone 7 that does not switch to Daylight Savings Time then you’re actually 1 hour behind folks in timezone 7 that do the switch. With theSurvox assumption of a Daylight Savings Time World, a Non-Daylight Savings time site in Timezone 7 will work properly as a Daylight Savings time site in Timezone 8.)

How to set the SPRINGFORWARD option in the fone files

For all such Survent sites that use the phone system and call numbers in the U.S. and/or Canada, be sure to perform the following steps:

  1. For any active .fon files, run FONEUTIL and use the SpringFoward (DS+) option to have it adjust for any numbers in areas that do not observe daylight savings (Arizona, Hawaii, and parts of the Caribbean). If your current .fon file does not call any of these areas, you do not need to perform this operation, although it is still recommended in case you were to add some sample in those areas later on.
  2. Navigate into the CONTROL sub-directory of where the Survox software is installed and then run FONEBULD and change the Daylight Savings setting for your default shopfile to YES.
DAY_LIGHT_mode = YES
